My story

What led me to counselling

My journey to becoming a counsellor is rooted in my personal experiences as a neurodivergent military child. Growing up, I often felt lost and struggled to understand my own identity while navigating the complexities of constantly changing environments. In adulthood, I worked to unpick and understand my traits, which has given me a deep empathy for those who feel disconnected or uncertain about their path.

Working in education, I frequently supported neurodivergent children, or those from less well-off or culturally different backgrounds, who struggled to fit societal norms. This inspired me to provide a safe and understanding space where individuals can explore who they are without judgement.

It was this experience that encouraged me to take a counselling course, where I discovered my passion for helping others heal and grow. Supporting adults to understand themselves better, find clarity, and move forward has become my life’s work.

Experience

Where I’ve practised

I have counselled individuals facing a range of challenges — including anxiety, stress and self-esteem issues — during my time at Maple Leaf Counselling and Training Centre since 2022. Since January 2023, I have also been working with Solihull Bereavement, supporting those navigating grief and loss. This combination of experience has given me a well-rounded understanding of the diverse needs of adults in counselling.

My approach

How I work with you

My philosophy

I practise an integrative approach to counselling, tailoring my work to the unique needs of each individual in collaboration with them. My training includes elements of Person-Centred, Psychodynamic, Gestalt, Grief Work, Transactional Analysis (TA), Mindfulness-Based Approaches, Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT) and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).

I also draw on my background in writing and literature, incorporating techniques such as Narrative Therapy and Bibliotherapy, which can help individuals explore their personal stories and find new perspectives.

As a qualified Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) Practitioner, I combine elements of cognitive therapy and acupressure by tapping on specific meridian points on the body — especially effective in reducing stress, anxiety and emotional distress, helping individuals feel more grounded and in control.

My style

My counselling style is empathetic, adaptable and centred on the individual. I prioritise building a trusting relationship and creating a judgement-free space where people feel safe to share, especially during their most vulnerable moments. My calm, practical approach also makes me well-suited to helping individuals in moments of crisis or panic.

My core values

I adhere to the ethical code of my professional body, ensuring integrity, respect and confidentiality. My core values include empathy, unconditional positive regard and congruence. I believe each person has an innate ability to know what is best for them — my role is to help uncover that wisdom — and that trauma can be overcome with the right space, support and understanding.

Let’s take the next step together.
